See Trastevere & the Villa Farnesina on This Rome City Tour
We meet at Piazza Trilussa and from there we will head to the most beautiful treasure of Trastevere, the little known but amazing Villa Farnesina, the heart of one of the most important Renaissance courts.
This villa will unveil one treasure after another, frescoed by the most important artists of the Renaissance, such as Raphael, Sodoma, Peruzzi, del Piombo and maybe even Michelangelo, who, stunned by the beauty of what Raphael was accomplishing, decided one night to leave the drawing of a youth face on a wall.
The experience continues through the maze of little alleys of Trastevere until Piazza Santa Maria, from where you will admire its wonderful church. This neighbourhood is one of the best preserved in Rome and still allows you to feel how Roman life flew by hundreds of years ago.
Once on the Tiberine Island, the only island of the Tiber, your guide will help you relive the layers of the thousands of years of Roman history that lies beneath. Across lies the Jewish Ghetto, where since 1555 the jews of the Papal state were forced to live. We will talk about the Jewish neighbourhood and its history before setting you free to explore it on your own or to have lunch.
